What is Voddler?

Simply it's Spotify for movies.

Voddler is Swedish just like Spotify.
They've been developing their technology since 2005 and have signed deals with some big studios like: Paramount Pictures, The Walt Disney Company (Touchstone Pictures, Miramax Films Dreamworks Studios), Sony Pictures Television (Screen Gems, Columbia Pictures Television, TriStar Television, Columbia TriStar Television) and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM).

You can example watch Jackass the movie for 0,50€ or J.I. Jane for free.
But I wanted to watch Twilight but I did not find it there and many movies I could rent from ground stores are missing too.

You need to watch around 1-2 minutes of advertisement and at least one trailer before watching a free movie. I would say there are around ~200 movies there

My opinion

The idea is great. I hate leaving my home to rent some video since it envolves unecesarry walking etc (since at Finnish winter it's really not a good idea to drive my Ducati).

• You can use it with a Mac (and Windows too)
• I was suppressed about the quality of the movie it's really GOOD! (it takes around 300kB/sec of bandwidth)
• Has some hit movies too
• There are movies that you can get for free that are worth watching
• Social features are present (reviews 1-10) but there is no integration to Facebook nor any other service

• User interface is strange since you do not use your mouse at all (after using it for a while you get over the shock and start to like it a bit)
• No search (this is a big failure)
• You can only pay by credit card
• Now only available in Sweden (the program in English) so movie texts are in Swedish
• You can scroll the movie with only your arrow buttons (I would love to use my mouse)
• Uses around 50% of my processor capacity (I'm running on a Mac 2,6 GHz Core 2 Duo with 4Gt of 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM)

Verdict

This will be a hit service as soon as they get more hit movies that will save me time walking to Makuuni (Finnish blockbusters). Also the program itself needs some improvements to be a hit like Spotify.

Definitely I will follow their progress and write about it.
